VITEC, a global provider of digital video products that support end-to-end media solutions, recently announced that the Optibase (News
- Alert) Full Motion Video Streaming system has been optimized with mobile streaming capabilities. Now, both high definition and standard definition IPTV content can be easily delivered over the military-grade platform in real-time to iOS and Android mobile devices over 3G, 4G and LTE (News - Alert) Wi-Fi and WiMAX networks. The solution will also work well with existing IP video infrastructures.
In a release, Eli Garten, vice president of Optibase Product Management at VITEC, said that, “Today's mobile devices offer versatility and computational power that can revolutionize the battlefield. With FMVMS, we are able to enhance our tactical situational awareness solutions and allow our customers to disseminate critical video and metadata information faster and to more recipients, even in remote locations and while on the move.”
He added, “With this new technology we are able to address the growing need for a tactical mobile delivery solution that offers superb video quality in wide range of bit rates, designed from the ground up to fit military network topologies and trade-off between local and disadvantaged users.”
Ground troops serving in remote locations are increasingly depending on dissemination of video for enhancing their situational awareness during combat situations. This has placed increasing pressure on military IT and video experts who need to keep up with changing network bandwidth requirements over multiple platforms of mobile devices and operating systems.
Optibase FMVMS helps in managing the FMV network and helps troops in the battlefield by delivering broadcast-grade video quality with easy to use mobile delivery technology compatible with all network and data rate types. FMVMS have been designed to provide video hub service or to function as an edge device which when placed in close proximity to the users can effectively enhance network utilization.
Garten went on to say that “Our ability to dynamically and automatically detect the type of mobile devices in use makes FMVMS flexible, easy to deploy and easy to manage -- attributes that will assist military organizations to quickly and cost-effectively deploy powerful new tools and services and make an immediate impact with increased video delivery capabilities.”
