Metalogix's New Essentials for Drives Offers Free Migration for OneDrive Users
By Steve Anderson
File storage is one of those vital yet seldom considered points of business. Yet with file storage comes the raw fodder required to do analytics, the means to improve customer experience, and several other key points. So getting the most out of file storage is important, and that's a point Metalogix is looking to help with with its new Essentials for Drives: File Shares to OneDrive Freemium system.
With Essentials for Drives, users get a great new premium: the free migration of up to a terabyte of content or 500 drives, or users, to Microsoft (News - Alert)'s OneDrive for Business. “Content” here includes a surprising variety of points, including not only files and folders, but also file system permissions, different versions, and even metadata.
OneDrive for Business, meanwhile, comes with Office 365 and SharePoint Online subscriptions, giving users access to file hosting that's cloud-based. This allows users easy access to files over mobile devices or Web browsers, making such things more readily accessible to a mobile workforce. That's an increasingly prized development in its own right, though sometimes, the migration has proven a bit more challenging than some might like. Essentials for Drives steps in to help on that front.
With Essentials for Drives, several key features help make that migration easier, like providing automatic conversion of folder names to the appropriate metadata, as well as flattening the file structure, automatically correcting any of several issues that might crop up in the course of migration, and offering not only detailed logging for items successfully migrated, but also for items that failed to reprocess appropriately. It even offers some extra post-migration management systems that help make the overall picture smoother.
Metalogix's CEO Abe Peled commented “Metalogix Essentials for Drives is the next logical step in ensuring maximum efficiency, cost effectiveness and ROI, by providing all the functionality necessary to ensure a well-structured and secure cloud collaboration system.”
It's not enough to just have information; it's important to use information appropriately to generate the best results. That means having the information readily on hand and accessible will be a vital part of getting the most out of information. If it's all been carefully pigeonholed and siloed away, it won't deliver value. By like token, if it's been transferred elsewhere but is largely unusable or inaccessible, then what's the point? A system like Essentials for Drives helps make the moves simpler and easier to work with later, improving the value of data.
Data is a valuable thing, though it has to be used properly to have the fullest value. Essentials for Drives will help ensure that users are getting the most out of that data by keeping it safe and accessible later.
