VT Group Gets Simpler, Safer Networking Thanks to Tellabs
By Steve Anderson
We all know how important it is to maintain a safe, secure network. It's the kind of thing that keeps us all from being identity theft targets while allowing us to work and play and enjoy the best the Internet can offer. VT Group recently showed off its own commitment to a safe network by bringing in the Tellabs (News - Alert) Passive Optical LAN system to deliver security and simplicity, and the results have been impressive.
With such a system in place, VT Group got access to better quality employees as well as new levels of growth and space available to drive better service for the user base. It also served as the underpinnings of a new headquarters operation, which meant better internal services and an ability to better serve the needs of external users. Intended as an improvement over the standard copper local area network (LAN), the optical LAN (OLAN) offered a consolidated, simpler approach that could still provide systems like unified communications (UC) and Internet protocol (IP) video delivery.
Better yet, it wasn't just the simplicity. It was also the security; the new OLAN offered better security from the word go, as fiber cabling is by its very nature more secure than copper. The OLAN's thin client deep network devices likewise help as these don't store configuration or user information, and don't have physical management capability, meaning that even if there is a breach, there's not much that can be derived as a result.
Tellabs' vice president of global sales and marketing Thomas C. Ruvarac commented, “VT Group is Tellabs' 2015 Partner of the Year, and understands how OLAN benefits the IT industry, the end-customers, and their new worldwide headquarters. VT Group knows through first-hand experience that OLAN is a secure military-grade IT infrastructure that will dramatically improve VT Group's cybersecurity posture.”
It's almost an aside, but it's projected that the simplicity and security of the new OLAN resulted in a savings of several thousand dollars. This combination delivers a clear value proposition and an instructive measure of most anyone looking to upgrade a network. An OLAN system can provide not only security, but also simplicity, and in such a fashion that it can also deliver savings over the long term. It represents better operations and reduced costs, and in so doing, makes itself a prime target for anyone looking to make upgrades in a network.
It's clear that Tellabs has demonstrated its worth with its connection to VT Group, bringing a simpler, safer network that's generating savings and new opportunities in almost equal measure. That's a hard combination of facts to turn down, and with Tellabs now able to tell anyone who will listen about the VT Group's success with the project, Tellabs will likely clear a path for it to make some serious headway selling these OLAN systems and putting them in play.
