Using Skype for Business Remotely Just Got Easier

Today’s workforce is all about going mobile. Gone are the days of simply going to work every day, sitting at a desk for eight hours, then sitting in traffic before finally making it back home. This process has been completely revolutionized over the past few years as more employees gained the ability to work outside the office. Whether on the go, at home or maybe even in a coffee shop, mobile workers are proving to be effective.

The only problem is that not all businesses have completely adapted to this new workforce. One of the major downfalls of remote work is the lack of an office phone. Desk phones often come with several capabilities that allow for useful features such as call recording. Likewise, videoconferencing is oftentimes easier in the office than elsewhere, especially now that conference rooms can come equipped with all sorts of gadgets. There are countless other obstacles that make working on the go more difficult than it needs to be.

Microsoft (News - Alert) is looking to at least get rid of one of the problems plaguing remote work by updating its Skype for Business app on iOS. Aside from the normal bug fixes and tweaks, this new update integrates Skype for Business with Apple’s (News - Alert) Call Kit.

Due to this integration, Skype for Business users can now answer calls from their lock screens. Previously, anyone receiving a call via Skype (News - Alert) for Business would have to quickly unlock their phone, open the app, and pray that they answered the call on time. This often resulted in a lot of phone fumbling, especially for workers on the go.

Being able to answer calls from the lock screen allows for a more natural calling experience. There should be no difference between picking up a Skype for Business call and a normal phone call from now on. Calls will appear normally, with the person’s name appearing on the screen—no extra steps needed.

Meanwhile, if for some reason a user chooses not to receive Skype calls on the lock screen, they or the company’s IT admins can turn this feature off in settings.
