Machine to Machine (M2M) solutions are becoming more popular as each week goes by. From the healthcare industry and the automotive industry to the smart grid arena, the concept of machines talking to machines has been widely adopted by industries all over. M2M technologies allow networked machines to exchange information and perform actions without the manual assistance of humans. Here are the top stories from this week.

To start the week off, Globalstar (News - Alert) value added manufacturer Lasso Technologies, LLC recently announced that it has launched a cutting-edge satellite interface that will provide its customers with easier remote machine-to-machine (M2M) monitoring accessed via the Globalstar satellite network. Lasso’s new technology enables Globalstar to expand its reach into the M2M market by breaking down and simplifying field sensors and device integration for the company’s remote Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications. Previously, customers were not able to take advantage of the full features and capabilities of the Globalstar SmartOne modem without shelling out money, time and other resources for customization.

In an industry research report, "Internet of Things & Machine-To-Machine Communication Market - Advanced Technologies, Future Cities & Adoption Trends, Roadmaps & Worldwide Forecasts 2012-2017,” the Internet of Things and Machine to Machine Communications market is expected to grow from $44 billion in 2011 to $290 billion by 2017, at an estimated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30.1 percent from 2012 to 2017.

AT&T (News - Alert) announced this week the state of Tennessee approved to use the state’s new Emergency Service IP Network (ESInet) to support a Text to 911 trial statewide. Under this trial, AT&T will work with the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board (TECB) to provide a Text to 911 trial service, allowing for emergency 911 Short Message Service (SMS) text messages from AT&T wireless subscribers to be received by Tennessee 911 call centers, known as public service answering points (PSAPs).

Every company knows what a pain inventory can be. M2M technologies are putting ease to the process. Numerex (News - Alert) Corporation, a key player in the interactive and on-demand machine to machine technology and services space, has introduced its horizontal Supply Chain Management solutions portfolio, designed to help enterprises optimize their inventory management. Coming with such features as sensors, network elements, mobility and enterprise management interfaces, Numerex's Supply Chain Management portfolio can be used to monitor inventory on retail shelves, levels of bins or other containers, location and status, and many other events.
