Enterprise Holdings Blending QR Codes with the Internet in Rental Car Fleet

Rental car companies are getting more high tech every day. Enterprise Holdings, which owns three of the top rental car companies in the United States, is about to equip its cars with some more high-tech equipment.

The company, which has already brought the ONRAMP concierge mobile website, is now outfitting a large number of its cars with the Quick Response (QR) codes that will allow customers unfettered access to the ONRAMP site.

The company owns Enterprise, Alamo and other national car rental companies so these technological advances will indeed affect a large swath of car rental customers. The QR codes can be scanned by the customer’s smartphones and will then grant the user access to the site where they can access information about the make and model of the car they have rented, and visit sites like Yelp (News - Alert) and Gasbuddy for information about their physical location.

Users will also be able to look up specific deals that encompass the rental car companies they are using.

"The ONRAMP Concierge site extends our industry-leading customer service beyond our branch location and the rental transaction. Our car rentals, typically ranging from 2 to 14 days, are often viewed as the perfect test drive," said Matt Darrah, executive vice president, North American Operations of Enterprise Holdings. "ONRAMP adds value with easy, real-time access to vehicle information, offers popular location-based services to help customers find local restaurants and activities, as well as provides access to the latest rental deals from all three of our brands."

This kind of endeavor not only underlines that the car rental industry is taking advantage of technological advances in its field, but also that there are certainly ways to take advantage of those advances on a commercial basis.
