Customers of Dongfeng Nissan – a joint venture between Nissan and China's Dongfeng Motor Corporation producing automobiles – can now leverage a new telematics solution called CARWINGS MINI, which helps them to reach their destination as quickly as possible while providing helpful information on the way.
The telematics personal navigation device (PND), CARWINGS MINI, will be offered by Garmin (News - Alert) Ltd. for Dongfeng Nissan vehicles in China.
As a provider of navigation, communication and information devices and applications, Garmin integrated its navigation technology with connected services such as traffic information, friend finder, news, weather, SMS and a dedicated customer service button into CARWINGS MINI.
To be available as a Nissan dealer option in China starting this month, CARWINGS MINI is a detachable multi-touch display device featuring spoken turn-by-turn directions, traffic rerouting, lane assistance, speed limit warnings, real-time traffic information, several news feeds, weather forecasts and current speed display.
Apart from featuring a slim design of just 9mm in overall thickness, Dongfeng Nissan’s CARWINGS MINI telematics PND also sports the company’s one-shot address entry via voice command.
This feature allows users to enter a destination through voice command, by simply saying it and without going through multiple menus.
In addition, the new telematics PND also provides realistic 3D views of buildings as well as key landmarks that provide drivers with better orientation.
The device uses topographic map data and can display 3D terrain views of landscape elevations, which helps drivers to see what lies ahead. Users can even change perspective from 2D to 3D and rotate the map 360 degrees with a two-finger drag or twist gesture.
Most of all, CARWINGS MINI is integrated with several connected services, which provide drivers with relevant information while on the road. The device also has a friend finder feature that allows drivers to share their position with friends and family.
The one-click customer service button on the device connects users to a support agent who can assist drivers.
In addition, the SMS functionality on the device helps users to read out and dictate messages by voice.
“We’re very pleased to partner with leading automaker Dongfeng Nissan just five months after opening our new office in Shanghai,” said Matt Munn, managing director automotive OEM, Garmin. “This new partnership is a major milestone for our efforts in China and exemplifies our progress in the global automotive OEM market. CARWINGS MINI provides Dongfeng Nissan customers a top-notch telematics solution that gets them to their destination as quickly as possible while providing helpful information on the way.”
