M2M, or machine to machine, communication is a rapidly growing field. As machines become smarter they need to communicate with each other and technicians to optimize their capability. Vendors that provide the hardware and support for this technology have to be reliable because many M2M applications are used in mission critical applications such as nuclear power plants, hospitals and manufacturing plants. Being ranked as the leading vendor of M2M Connected Device Platform (CDP) by ABI Research will give Jasper Wireless one more accolade in the market.
The assessment by ABI was made from the leading third-party M2M CDP vendors consisting of eight companies. The criteria for the assessment examined different categories including innovation, implementation and market share analysis. The companies were:
- Accenture (News - Alert) Ltd
- Aeris Communications
- Ericsson Telecom AB
- Jasper Wireless
- KORE Telematics
- NEC (News - Alert) Corporation
- Nokia Siemens Networks
- Wyless PLC
Jasper Wireless ranked top because of its global reach and vertical specific expertise compared to the other companies in the assessment.
The M2M market is collaborative effort between Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and CDPs. While major MNOs have their own CDP, some companies are going with third-party providers, such as Jasper and others. The competition to grab the few companies left without their own CDP is strong and only those with the ability to adapt and change to new technologies will get the partnerships they seek. Another reason Jasper was ranked at the top is its ability to grab a large portion of this global market.
"Operator alliances will soon become a more integral feature of M2M market development. A key enabler of this is likely to be the use of the Jasper Wireless CDP by MNOs in multiple regions. Thanks to a slew of partnerships with leading MNOs such as KPN, Optimus, and Telefonica (News - Alert) in Europe; AT&T and Rogers in North America; America Movil in Latin America; Telstra, CSL, and SingTel in Asia Pacific; VimpelCom in Russia, and Etisalat (News - Alert) in the Middle East/Africa, Jasper enables MNOs to support OEMs in rolling out worldwide services for their customers," said the author of the report, Craig Foster.
While only the top company gets the most recognition, Foster said Ericsson is making headway in Europe with its recent deals with Swisscom, MegaFon, TeliaSonera (News - Alert) and ThreeWholesale.
