Aeris (News - Alert) Communications announced an expanded partnership with Acura to power the next generation of AcuraLink, an advanced cloud-based connectivity system expected to be released in early 2013 on the all-new 2014 Acura RLX luxury sedan.

Aeris’ machine-to-machine (M2M) platform includes a full-range of car-connectivity solutions such as messaging, data streaming, and on-demand voice connectivity. The company enables automakers, such as Acura and Honda (News - Alert), to have enhanced connectivity for the entire life cycle of the vehicle, which greatly improves the business dynamics of their programs.

The next-generation system expands Acura’s provision of services for the connected car and the connected customer. For RLX models equipped with the Acura Navigation System, the new AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic service includes new surface-street traffic to go along with freeway and highway traffic information, giving the RLX owner a clearer picture of driving conditions, and the convenience of improved rerouting capabilities.

The system also provides enhanced safety and security, CRM and remote vehicle services – all provisioned over the Aeris network.

Aeris partnered with Acura to provide the cellular connectivity, and assisted in the development, testing and optimization of these new AcuraLink solutions.

Charles Koch, Large Project Leader for AcuraLink at American Honda Motor, said, “Aeris has been an innovative partner as we incorporate more intelligent communications solutions to our vehicles. Earlier this year we named Aeris the communications provider for HondaLink EV, and the response from our customers has been positive. Because Aeris understands the unique requirements of cellular technology in the automotive industry, the selection of their services for AcuraLink was an obvious choice.”

Steve Millstein, managing director of Automotive at Aeris, said, “We have a lot of experience as a trusted partner to automotive OEMs, and we recognize that their challenges for vehicle connectivity are very different from mobile handsets. We understand that difference, we understand their business and we understand how to build a network that works for them. As such, we’re bringing solutions to Acura to ensure that they stay at the forefront of the industry and offer their customers the features and benefits they’re looking for.”

Recently, Aeris Communications partnered with Novotech Technologies, a worldwide distributor of wireless, M2M products, services and solutions.
