Identive Group, specialized in creating solutions and services for the identification, security and RFID industries, has unveiled its new Smartag Crypto tag (News - Alert), an addition to the Smartag family of radio frequency identification (RFID) products.

The RFID tag features the functionality and encryption capabilities of a microcontroller smart card but in a more compact size. The size, large memory capacity, cryptographic capabilities and the contactless smart card microprocessor makes the Smartag Crypto suitable for high-security and high-functionality applications.

Manfred Mueller, COO of Identification Products for Identive said, “Our new Smartag Crypto tag provides customers with a versatile new option for ID credentials and other high-security applications needing increased processing, memory, or cryptographic capabilities. Just like a smart card, the tag has strong security to safeguard and manage personal information and privileges.”

Smartag Crypto can be used in traditional, mobile and other secure applications such as payment, network logon, physical access, transportation, digital signatures and authentication to e-health and e-government programs.

It can be used with a mobile phone or embedded in a wristband or badge as well.

The Smartag Crypto tag can be stuck to surfaces like mobile devices as it comes in a sticker form factor. The technology behind this is Identive’s tag on metal or Tom shielding technology. The tag can support several contactless smart card ICs so that customers can pick the memory size, operating system and capabilities according to application needs.

Smartag Crypto is available now with NXP Semiconductors’ (News - Alert) security-certified SmartMX PKI and Inside Secure’s contactless picopass ICs, confirmed officials.

“Identive’s proprietary, patented and patent-pending technology as well as advanced manufacturing made it possible to bring Smartag Crypto to market without the use of extra IC packaging or modules, while offering high reliability and durability,” stated Michael Kober, managing director of Identive’s Transponder business unit.

Several versions of the tag are already available, and the company plans to launch a ‘peel and apply’ convertible tag embedded within an ID1-sized card body soon, Kober added.

Recently, Identive announced the commercial launch of its cloud-based mobile services platform, Tagtrail, which allows advertisers, retailers and organizations in education, hospitality and numerous other markets to deliver personalized content and services to users’ mobile devices via near field communication (NFC) and other electronic discovery technologies.
