Information Technology enabler Digicom SpA has integrated Telit M2M modules to optimize the operation of TLOG, the company's solution for remote control and telemetry applications for gas, LPG and water.

Telit is a vendor of machine-to-machine (M2M) modules and value-added services. The company has been creating value by partnering with customers to provide expert guidance and support. Through this deal, the company strengthens its presence in the Smart-Metering industry.

Digicom specializes in the design and production of telecommunications and networking solutions. As indicated, it has adopted Telit's ATEX certified variant of the GE864-QUAD module to integrate it into TLOG. Application of the GE864-QUAD ATEX to Digicom's TLOG is expected to reduce consumption by 20 percent, due to higher reliability and an increase in connection stability estimated at 30 percent. The GE864-QUAD ATEX module allows more accurate billing from real-time consumption information, reduction in delays for notification of anomalies, and significant cost savings in maintenance personnel.

“The smart metering sector is one of our core strategic markets from where we are seeing very high demand for M2M solutions. We are delighted that, with our GE864-QUAD ATEX module, we are able to make an important contribution to help solution providers such as Digicom create and manage their M2M applications reducing total-cost-of-ownership while ensuring highest quality and reliability,” Dominikus Hierl, chief marketing officer at Telit Wireless (News - Alert) Solutions, said in a statement.

Water is a key driver of economic and social development and maintains the integrity of the natural environment, so a coordinated action that includes the interests of diverse stakeholders is needed, as the deployment of smart water meters. Telit technology, together with Digicom's expertise is believed to provide optimized management of meter reading and smart control of consumption, particularly important when considering the criticality of avoiding water waste.

The adopted Telit module belongs to the GE864 family of quad-band GSM/GPRS products. Due to its small size, reliability, and efficiency, it is ideally suited for use in large scale telemetry and telematics applications, data transfer terminals, and in remote maintenance and surveillance. The module operates in an extended temperature range from -40C° to +85C° and is equipped with a powerful, energy-efficient processor.

Telit-powered m2m devices cost less to integrate, maintain, operate, and update with lower price points for bundled products and savings translating into competitive advantage at the time of sale and throughout the operating life of the customer device, noted the company.

In related news, TMCnet mentioned about the availability of a new market research report - Global Cellular Machine-to-Machine Industry.
