TMCnet Machine to Machine Solutions Week in Review

It was a busy week in the Machine to Machine Solutions sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

It seems that the auto industry may be taking the most advantage of M2M. There are many different ways in which the auto industry can implement the technology. Whether it is the different technologies that Mercedes Benz has implemented in order to make their cars safer, or BMW’s Connected Drive online route guide, there are more reasons for auto makers to incorporate M2M technology into their vehicles.

In addition, M2M technology is helping farmers overcome a wide variety of challenges. For example, bats are helpful around crops, as they commonly eat their body weight in insects every single day. Take advantage of the bats' bug-eating potential by using wireless M2M tracking devices to see where the bats are going and encourage them to stick around fields by offering accommodations like "bat houses" for them.

Additionally, as many farms saw this summer, the proper use of irrigation can mean the difference between a good harvest and a wiped-out farm operation. But like anything else, the potential for waste is always there – irrigation commonly doesn't run itself – and using a remote monitoring system like those offered by McCrometer can help.

In another recent report, Information Technology enabler Digicom SpA has integrated Telit M2M modules to optimize the operation of TLOG, the company's solution for remote control and telemetry applications for gas, LPG and water.

In still another story, Vodafone (News - Alert) Group, an arm of Vodafone Business Services, will be introducing a M2M platform. The focus of the Vodafone Group is corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises.

And Klaus Vedder, Giesecke & Devrient’s Group senior vice president, recently said there is “a trend toward integrating SIM cards at an earlier point in the value chain, when mobile devices are produced.”
