Avnet Signs Distribution Agreement with Digi International

With the number of connected devices set to increase rapidly in the next few years, machine-to-machine technology is expected to be in greater demand than it is today, for sectors across a wide spectrum of industry are beginning to appreciate the value of M2M applications.

Hence, Phoenix-based Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, keen to offer customers easy access to industry-leading embedded modules based on Freescale (News - Alert) technology, reportedly signed a distribution agreement with Digi International (News - Alert), whose products and services are used to enable thousands of M2M applications across many industries.

The distribution agreement is expected to provide Avnet Electronics’ customers access to  Digi’s broad range of ARM (News - Alert)-based embedded wired and wireless modules, wireless routers and gateways, and other M2M technologies.

In addition, Avnet Embedded – a business group of Avnet Electronics Marketing that has great plans to become a one-stop shop for customers for all software, hardware and support services needs – chose to extend the reach of its embedded software program by teaming up with the reputed open source solutions provider, Red Hat (News - Alert), Inc.

Avnet Embedded will thus be equally busy by ensuring that its large base of OEM and independent software vendor partners throughout the Americas are kept happy with flexible, integrated systems based on the Red Hat offering for embedded products.

This offering includes Red Hat Embedded Linux, Red Hat JBoss Middleware solutions, Red Hat Developer Support and JBoss Developer Support.

Digi International is also expected to gain in the process, as it will be able to leverage Avnet’s sales and technical support groups and serve a wider customer base. John Guargena, vice president, Americas and India sales at Digi International, is impressed with the outstanding engineering and integration services that Avnet’s sales team offers.
