It was a busy week in the Machine to Machine Solutions sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

AT&T (News - Alert) will commercially launch AT&T Digital Life in eight markets in March.  AT&T Digital Life is an all-digital, wireless-based home security and automation service that lets customers control a variety of devices in their homes using a smartphone, tablet or PC with any wireless carrier or broadband provider. Digital Life features a variety of wireless-ready devices, including window/door sensors, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, motion and glass break sensors, door locks, thermostats, moisture detection and water shut-off appliance and lighting controls.

In another story, ORBCOMM (News - Alert) signed a secured note agreement with AIG Asset Management under which AIG will offer a loan for five years and amounting to $45 million to ORBCOMM.

The loan will be repayable at a fixed interest rate of 9.5 percent.

It was also reported that Axeda Corporation, in collaboration with CalAmp (News - Alert), Danlaw, GlobalSat, Lantronix, MultiTech, RFM and Xirgo, has released several Axeda Ready devices. Customers are offered a wide assortment of devices. A testing and deployment program is also offered to device manufacturers by Axeda (News - Alert) Ready.

TMCnet also reported that Sequoia Wireless, in association with Telit, has extended its own machine-to-machine (M2M) offerings. The two organizations will now introduce m2mAir SIM services to the U.K. market. M2M-supervised and value-added services will be offered to customers, letting M2M solution providers create and manage their M2M applications in a simplified manner when bundled with Telit's wireless module technology.

There is also total-cost-of-ownership.

And TMCnet’s Frank Griffin reported that Audi and Toyota have jumped into the self-driving car initiative, and made announcements on the technology at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Self-driving cars will offer many benefits – especially when it comes to human safety.
