Zero Motorcycles, an electric motorcycle company, has just released a mobile application for both iOS and Android (News - Alert), Yahoo! Finance reports.
The Zero Motorcycles app is being touted as the first of its kind to be able to control the performance of a production motorcycle. The app connects to the motorcycle via Bluetooth and then pushes data—either live or archived—to the mobile device, letting the rider know the status of the bike. The app can either power a customizable riding dashboard or statistics. The dashboard then enables the rider see such information as charge, torque, drivetrain temperature and battery amps. While parked, riders can view lifetime data of the bike and information to help manage it.
“The Zero Motorcycle app marks the first time in history that a production motorcycle's top speed, torque and regenerative braking can be easily adjusted by an owner in seconds,” said Scot Harden, vice president of marketing for Zero Motorcycles, in a statement. “Not only is it fun, it also results in a riding experience that is truly customized to meet the unique needs of every individual. We encourage interested fans to download the app, play with it in demo mode and then schedule a test ride with their local dealer so they can truly appreciate the Zero Motorcycles experience.”
After an app is paired with a motorcycle, owners can customize bike settings for a more environmental and economical bike. The rider can also enter in their local cost of electricity and gas and their miles per gallon for alternate vehicles to calculate how much they save by riding a Zero Motorcycle and how much CO2 they prevented from entering the atmosphere.
Moreover, data received by the app can be sent directly to technicians for easy diagnostics and repairs and it is free of charge.
