It was a busy week in the Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync Solution sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

Microsoft wants Office 365 to become the platform of the future for individuals and businesses of all sizes. As companies start integrating mobile devices into their networks, the applications they choose must be available in the cloud. So improvements for Office 365 will include updates for Microsoft Lync Online, Microsoft Exchange Online and Microsoft SharePoint Online services. Enterprise enhancements include social capabilities with SharePoint and Yammer (News - Alert), connectivity for presence with Lync-Skype, instant messaging (IM) and voice.

The enhancements are available in 69 markets and 70 languages, and by the second quarter of 2013 an additional 20 markets and 16 languages will be added.

In addition, to increase customer support, SimpleSignal, a provider of cloud-based unified communication and collaboration solutions to businesses, has launched hosted voice integration with Microsoft Lync. The launch avails three integration builds, targeting different Microsoft Lync installations on the market. The SIP connectivity build targets premises-based Lync installations and hybrid SIP connectivity for hosted PBX features, while the fully managed hosted Lync works with the SimpleSignal’s (News - Alert) hosted PBX.

Also, TMCnet reported that Dutch telecom operator KPN will conduct a pilot with Microsoft making and receiving calls using Microsoft Lync Online. KPN (News - Alert) can now make and receive calls to landline and mobile numbers in the Netherlands. Microsoft Business Office 365 Cloud service was introduced by KPN last year.

And carrier-class Wi-Fi, Diameter and Microsoft Lync are all hot topics in the networking world – and Ixia is addressing all of them. Also, Ixia (News - Alert) has expanded its Wi-Fi access point and controller test solution to test endpoints such as medical devices, printers, scanners, smartphones and tablets. The solution shows whether connectivity problems are being caused by a phone, patient device, or other factors.

Ixia this week also unveiled an enhancement to its flagship product, IxLoad, to test all Diameter-type devices involved in the control plane/signaling plane. As a result of this new software plug-in, the IxLoad can test a host of devices, including Diameter routing agents, policy servers, HLRs, and online offline billing solutions.
