Aruba Networks' Application Fingerprinting Technology Optimizes Voice-Over-Wi-Fi with BlackBerry MVS 5

Aruba Networks, a provider of distributed enterprise network solutions, has announced that its application fingerprinting technology now optimizes voice over Wi-Fi calling with Research In Motion's new BlackBerry (News - Alert) Mobile Voice System 5 or "BlackBerry MVS 5."

Fingerprinting technology from Aruba automatically detects latency-sensitive application traffic and adjusts QoS and other parameters to ensure reliable and timely delivery - a feat that microcell and single channel Wi-Fi architectures can't match, the company said.

Aruba's portfolio of campus, branch/teleworker, and mobile solutions simplifies operations and secure access to all corporate applications and services - regardless of the user's device, location, or network.

Aruba's fingerprinting technology identifies latency-sensitive voice application traffic, and then conditions the Wi-Fi network to deliver it constantly without compromising accuracy.

"The network must deliver continuous coverage, hand-off signals as users roam, maintain quality of service, and help optimize battery life," Peter Cellarius (News - Alert), Aruba's vice president of Business Development, said.

"When operating on an Aruba wireless LAN, BlackBerry smartphone users with BlackBerry MVS 5 can get uninterrupted network access and flawless performance," Cellarius added.

BlackBerry MVS 5 is an enterprise unified communications solution that extends corporate phone systems to BlackBerry smartphones. "The quality of a Wi-Fi network can have a profound effect on the performance of unified communications solutions like BlackBerry Mobile Voice System 5," Cellarius added.

MVS 5 enables business users to use their regular desk phone number and extension from their BlackBerry smartphone to make and receive enterprise phone calls.

To ensure interoperability of its wireless LAN and application fingerprinting technology for voice over Wi-Fi calling with BlackBerry MVS 5 Aruba has been working with Research In Motion as a member of the BlackBerry Alliance Program.

Application fingerprinting is a component of Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management "ARM (News - Alert)" technology.

"We can deliver a consistent application experience wherever users roam. BlackBerry MVS 5 is a great solution for today's connected enterprises, and it becomes even better when combined with Aruba's wireless LAN technologies," Cellarius said.

Aruba officials said that they have tested application fingerprinting in some of the largest enterprises and they find it works well.

Earlier in April earlier, Aruba Networks (News - Alert) announced partnership with a Chicago-based provider of enhanced 9-1-1 solutions and RedSky Technologies to launch a WiFi (News - Alert)-based emergency call location solution for campus, branch office and teleworker applications.
