First Niagara Financial Group, a multi-state community oriented bank, recently unveiled its first mobile banking platform for smartphone users.  This one-of-a-kind mobile banking application is currently available on Blackberry, Android (News - Alert), and iPhone devices, allowing users to access and manage their bank accounts, anytime and from anywhere.

Customers of First Niagara can now securely transfer funds, deposit checks, and pay bills via their smartphone of choice. Users can also access Internet banking with their exact same login credentials.

Jay Clark, director of First Niagara Retail Planning, said that the company was excited about the new mobile banking application. It has worked assiduously to develop an intuitive ad user-friendly application that exceeds customer expectations. With a growing trend of smartphone users today, not only people are mobile but their banking facilities as well. First Niagara successfully meets the evolving requirements and convenience of its customers, Clark added.

As published in a statement, the key features of First Niagara Mobile Banking application are:

  • Account information: Check user account balance and transaction history via a smartphone
  • Internal fund transfers: Transfer funds quickly and securely between First Niagara accounts
  • Bill Payments: Easily and quickly view and pay bills, cancel or modify existing bills
  • Person to person payments, both mobile and online
  • Remote deposit capture
  • Tablet application for iPad
  • Customer service and branch/ATM locator: Locate nearest ATMs and branches in and out of the network

During the month of December, more than 1,800 teammates of First Niagara participated in pilot testing of the mobile banking application, striving to ensure a smooth and seamless customer experience. Clark stated that all throughout the process, the teammates of First Niagara not only enjoyed using the mobile banking application, but also helped the company to compile important data regarding the features and functionalities, enabling First Niagara to live up to customer expectations.

The intuitive app uses the same security system as that found within online banking and integrates multi-factor authentication. Further, the Passmark security system ensures complete data protection and uses the same security questions and login credentials that have previously been established when banking online..

Simply put, mobile banking not only cuts costs but also creates new revenue streams. Over 25 percent of mobile phone users said they’d take advantage of the ability to deposit checks via their phone. And with over 100 million smartphones sold each year, that number is only set to grow.

In countries with a high mobile phone penetration percentage, mobile banking can bring basic payments services to nearly everyone.
