How Mobile Apps Can Accelerate Sales

Nordstrom’s HauteLook flash sale retailer has just learned the value of mobile retail. Having redesigned its shopping application for iOS devices, HauteLook mobile app sales have shot up by 20 percent, providing more revenue as more and more of its sales are coming from the app.


For HauteLook, over 42 percent of its sales come from mobile purchases. Over 60 percent of the users who log in to their HauteLook accounts are doing so from mobile devices, and out of those, around 40 percent are made from the iPhone (News - Alert) and iPad app, which provided a large audience in need of a better mobile shopping experience.

As such, HauteLook upgraded its iOS app to provide several new features. Along with a new navigation scheme, along with bigger product imagery, catalog, and product pages, it uses a custom-built API and data processing to provide a faster, more convenient experience. Even the design has been remodeled, taking a branding and coloring theme that matches its main site.

Following the release of the new mobile app, which can be downloaded in the iTunes store, HauteLook saw mobile sales increase by a good 20 percent. That increase is all thanks to just a few adjustments to provide a more pleasant mobile shopping experience, but those adjustments made all the difference. The mobile app is now better and more active than ever.

“In March, we experienced our first day when HauteLook mobile sales surpassed web sales,” says Mark Geller, HauteLook’s head of product for mobile. “Consumer behavior is shifting more toward mobile, so we focused on optimizing the member experience in the new HauteLook mobile app. Based on member feedback, we rebuilt and redesigned the app for faster performance and easy navigation to simplify the shopping experience.”

HauteLook stands as a great example of how a well-designed mobile app can bring in more customers and more sales without them even needing to set foot in the store. By providing a mobile experience that’s easy to use, pleasant to look at, and offers an easy way to shop online, one can draw more customers and more business with ease. HauteLook has seen a sharp increase in mobile shopping with the release of its improved iOS app, just imagine how other companies can benefit from the same.
