Mobile commerce platform provider ROAM announced this week that ROAMmcm5, its new mobile payment engine, is now available in the United States, according to a statement released by the company. It is the first enterprise-ready mobile point of sale system that supports EMV-based transactions.

According to the company, ROAMmcm5 addresses the security and management concerns associated with large-scale mPOS by allowing organizations to board large groups of users, manage multiple mobile devices, set up custom risk profiles and pre-processing controls, integrate with back-end enterprise systems and view real-time reports.

“Deploying an omni-channel solution that includes mobile payments and spans multiple countries is incredibly complicated due to the different regulations in each country,” ROAM CEO Ken Paull said in the statement. “ROAMmcm5 masks that complexity and can handle a broad array of geographic requirements. This is a must-have for our global customers, who can now make a one-time investment in our platform and be instantly equipped for mobile payments in multiple countries.”

Paull recently told PYMNTS.com that 2014 will be a year of development for the mPOS industry and that it “will be more apparent to the general consumer base that these systems are going into the mainstream, mid-tiers and larger tiers of the retail market.”

He added that while mobile phones have seen most of the mPOS activity, tablets will get more attention moving forward.

ROAMmcm 5 currently has limited availability in the U.S., but will be generally available later this year. ROAM conducted its first demo of the solution in the U.S.  at Retail’s Big Show earlier this month in New York.

According to a survey conducted by the Yankee Group (News - Alert), almost one-third of merchants with 500 or more employees plan to deploy mPOS within the next 12 months. “As this technology moves upmarket, solutions such as ROAM’s are well positioned to meet the needs of larger merchants that demand an enterprise-class, end-to-end solution,” said analyst Jordan McKee.
