Digital coupon company RetailMeNot has released an update of its RetailMeNot Coupons app for both iOS and Android (News - Alert) users. As with any noteworthy software update, the latest version of the app brings with it a handful of new features and improvements.
For the most part, these new features revolve around improving the overall shopping and coupon experience for consumers. These enhancements include personalized mobile alerts that will notify users about offers from their favorite stores while within geo-fenced shopping destinations. As a supplement to this, the latest RetailMeNot Coupons release boasts smarter geo-fence notifications that will only be sent to users while they are in the vicinity of one of 6,000 shopping locations for an extended period of time.
Additionally, mall-specific pages will now first list coupons from users’ favorite stores.
"Simply put, we made the app better. Our users told us that they wanted our app's popular geo-fence notifications to evolve and show deals that reflected their store preferences, and we listened," said Jag Bath, senior vice president of product, RetailMeNot, Inc. "Our goal with this release was to make the app an enhanced utility for consumers who are actually in shopping mode and to provide them a more personalized experience when they sorted through offers in RetailMeNot's database."
Last summer, RetailMeNot conducted a survey of shoppers’ behaviors, specifically while seeking deals. The company discovered that 94 percent of people aged 18 to 34 used their mobile devices to search online in the month prior to taking the survey, as compared to 65 percent of those aged 35 and over. This suggests that younger demographics are more comfortable with using mobile devices while shopping; it also suggests that the RetailMeNot Coupons app is probably used more by the 18-34 demographic.
Meanwhile, another study commissioned by RetailMeNot and conducted by Forrester (News - Alert) Consulting found that retailers who use RetailMeNot’s in-store platform, powered by its app, experience “significant return on their promotional investment.”
