Mobile Commerce Insider Week in Review

Usually around tax time you hear the name Intuit (News - Alert) a lot. Commercials concerning preparing your taxes run endlessly. The company was formed because its founder was looking for a better way to balance the family checkbook. It has come a long way since 1983! This week Intuit is making its name heard again as it works on a deal to acquire Check Inc. This is a company whose focus is on tracking personal finances and paying bills through the use of mobile phones.

We know that most new technology starts in a university lab. OK, so sometimes that lab is actually someone’s garage, none-the-less, a lot of time what started out as a “let’s see if we can do it” scenario turns into an everyday “way of life” scenario. That is sort of how the whole world of e-commerce got its start. From a dubious transaction in the 70s to more far reaching aspirations in the 21st century, it has come a long way.

I know that I am the odd man out, when I am online, whether it is to make a purchase or make a deposit at the bank; I have everything that I need in hand. That’s right, I use the time it takes to wait on line to take my card or cash out of my wallet. Basically, I don’t want to wait on line any longer than I have to. So why are people in front of me still rummaging through their wallets and purses looking for that rewards card? Vibes might have the way for you to minimize your wallet and get through that line a little faster.

I have come to really like the fact that I can take a picture of a check and make a deposit right from the desk that I am writing from. According to a new report, Millennials—basically the people between the ages of 18 and 29—are confident, connected and open to change. Another report shows that this group and slightly order, reaching as far as 34 years of age, would consider switching to branchless banking.

It wasn’t too long ago that the U.K. didn’t really feel comfortable with mobile commerce. Most people would not use their mobile device for banking or even ordering a product on line. According to a new report out this week, that has changed to the tune that about 33 percent of all online sales in the country are now done from mobile devices. I wonder how much Millennials have to do with that.
