With Apple (News - Alert) Pay launching alongside iOS 8.1, more and more retailers are starting to embrace the technology. Office Depot is following hot on the heels of Walgreens, which recently sent out a memo to its employees getting them ready for the over the air payment service. Today, Office Depot announced it was officially supporting the Apple Pay service that is going to be offered on the iPhone (News - Alert) 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. The company also said that early in 2015, Office Depot will include Apple Pay support into its iOS application. This means people will be able to use Apple Pay on any iOS device.
This particular move is very good news for people who want to see Apple Pay succeed. There are plenty of people who are not so sure the service will survive the long haul. Pizza Hut’s higher ups are some of the most vocal about the lack of trust they have in the service. That company’s CEO has said he just doesn’t believe there are going to be enough people who are adopting Apple Pay. Making the service available inside applications is certainly one way to get more people than just iPhone 6 users with the tech.
“The introduction of the latest mobile payment technology to our Office Depot stores is the latest example of our focus on continuous innovation to deliver a world-class customer shopping experience across our stores, websites and mobile shopping channels,” said Mark Cosby, president of North America at Office Depot, Inc. in a recent statement.
Apple has been working hard to make its Apple Pay service safe and secure. In doing this, the company has come up with a system when a user adds a credit card. Instead of adding the account numbers, Apple Pay makes a unique Device Account Number. When using Apple Pay, the accounts are tied to together and each transaction is authorized using a one-time dynamic security code.
