Temenos' Mobile Banking Solution Promises Big Gains in Productivity

Mobile banking is, increasingly, a major part of not only business operations but also everyday life. As more and more users turn to the mobile device rather than the bank branch, that's prompting some changes in how mobile banking services are provided. Temenos' new mobile banking solution, meanwhile, looks to help banks provide better solutions with a particular focus on greater efficiency and a better customer experience overall.

The solution in question, dubbed Temenos Connect Mobile Banking, was recently put on display at the Temenos Community Forum back in May. It brings in Temenos' own user experience platform (UXP), known as edgeConnect 5.3, in a bid to make mobile applications look and feel more like standard native apps thanks to the use of the SmartHybrid system. It's also said to represent the only such mobile application development system out there that improves hybrid mobile applications, to the point where development and testing processes actually receive an 85 percent improvement to cost efficiency.

By using SmartHybrid, Temenos Connect Mobile Banking can help add unexpected phone features like cameras, GPS technology, address books and others to help make the developed apps even more effective. Meanwhile, screens can be updated using Web applications, which allows for easy customization of user interface and the use of personalized content, improving the user experience substantially by making it better tailored to each individual user without taking a lot of resources to do so.

Temenos' UXP product director, Dharmesh Mistry, offered up some comment surrounding the release, saying, “This truly is a next-generation approach to hybrid mobile app development. Everyone wants a native experience that utilizes all the individual device capabilities and is very responsive. However, native apps are just not sustainable long term. The mobile landscape is changing rapidly and no-one knows what the latest devices will be in even 12 months' time. If banks adopt a native mobile strategy, they will need pools of developers for the different platforms, speed to market will be comprised, and there will be high costs for development, maintenance and distribution.”

Mistry also noted that, while hybrid apps typically don't deliver in terms of performance compared to native apps, the use of edgeConnect changes that substantially, making hybrid apps developed with Temenos on par with more standard app releases.

Making a quality user experience has to be front-of-mind for most any app developer; it really doesn't matter what an app can do if no one can actually figure out the interface and suchlike well enough to actually put it to work in the first place. Using a system like Temenos, meanwhile, allows for not only the kind of functionality that users need, but also the kind of personalized interfaces and similar matters that users want, and for all of that to be developed without putting a lot of resources into that development. That's the best of all worlds, and this makes Temenos Connect Mobile Banking truly a force to be reckoned with.

It's only recently made its appearance, so it's going to be a while before we find out just what kind of impact Temenos Connect Mobile Banking can have on the wider app development system as we know it. But with as much as Temenos has going for it, this could be the start of something very big in mobile banking.
