Enterprises across the world now expect network services to keep up with the demands that organizations require. Multi-gigabit Ethernet networks are essential to make this possible; not only that, but enterprises want the services to be delivered on-demand as market conditions change. In order to deliver this capability, Colt Technology Services has expanded its SDN-enabled on demand portfolio with a new approach to how Ethernet connectivity is supplied. The company is able to support dynamic real-time ordering in its Colt IQ Network by provisioning and flexing high bandwidth connectivity.

The Colt IQ Network is designed to allow the digital transformation of organizations through a purpose built, intelligent and cloud integrated network. The ecosystem connects more than 700 data centers around the world with over 24,500 on-net buildings that are continually growing. The company has been a pioneer in software defined networks (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV), and this SDN-enabled on demand multi-gigabit Ethernet network expansion to enterprise buildings is part of that innovation.

The multi-gigabit Ethernet network Colt has deployed is used by 19 of the top 25 global telecoms companies and 18 out of the top 25 global media companies, as well as more than 50 exchanges and 13 European central banks. This not only highlights the reliability of the technology the company provides, but its need to make these expansions.

“With the expansion of Colt’s On Demand portfolio, Colt is enabling the digital transformation of businesses looking to support their high bandwidth needs. Enterprises are now empowered with a self-service portal to take full and intelligent control over their networks. Colt has invested significantly in on demand connectivity infrastructure, leaving organizations free to concentrate on their core business whilst gaining visibility, agility and flexibility,” said Rajiv Datta, CTO, Colt.

According to the company, more than 5,000 enterprise buildings and 200 Data Centers in 11 countries in Europe are eligible as part of the Colt IQ Network, with plans for more expansion in 2017, which will also include Asia. With this new service, enterprises that are connected will be able to address the demand of high-bandwidth applications, including cloud connectivity, disaster recovery and real-time data backup, which will be delivered through the company's On Demand Portfolio.

This portfolio makes it possible for enterprises to consume multi-gigabit Ethernet connectivity services in real-time using an intelligent online customer portal, thus bypassing the legacy service delivery system. This delivery option also has a flexible pricing structure so customers can choose traditional fixed term contracts or per hour pricing plans.

The service is now available with connectivity in and between Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK.
