Many consider Ethernet a mainstay, this is undeniable. However, with growing application performance demands, innovation in the cloud and our overall SaaS (News - Alert) reality, modernizing with multi-gigabit Ethernet can keep a campus or enterprise network bandwidth congestion free, and humming on all cylinders. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet: Time for the Week in the Review!

A new wall plate from Pyxel puts a high-performing network connection a plug away. The WAC5302D-S 802.11ac contains an enterprise-grade 802.11ac access point with smart antenna and beamforming advancements making it easy access desired Ethernet speeds. The plate also provides 3 Ethernet ports in addition to a power-over-Ethernet (PoE) port. TMC’s (News - Alert) Steve Anderson has all the details HERE.

The data center exists at the heart of the network, empowering operations and network performance. However, it requires multi-gigabit Ethernet to deliver on expectations. This week, Marvell (News - Alert) announced its Prestera PX Passive Intelligent Port Extender (PIPE), which offers multi-gigabit Ethernet access at a lower cost. Everything you need to know is HERE.

TMC’s Frank Griffin explored recent research from the International Data Corporation (IDC (News - Alert)) this week, as it pegged the global Ethernet switch market for some impressive growth. “As the Ethernet switching market reaches a greater level of maturity from 1GbE to 10GbE, it is increasingly characterized by customers moving more quickly to higher speeds at lower port costs, especially in the datacenter. While overall port shipments continue to grow, it is the revenues from the fastest speeds that continue to buoy the market,” said Rohit Mehra, vice president, Network Infrastructure at IDC. Griffin’s complete insight and analysis is HERE.

Did somebody say Ethernet switches? Innovium announced the arrival of the TERALYNX line of Ethernet switches. TERALYNX can accommodate from 10GbE to 400GbE, and offers up to 32 ports of 400 GbE. TMC’s Steve Anderson explores the new release HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gig Ethernet. See you next week!
