The enterprise has a fever, and the only prescription is multi-gigabit Ethernet. Multi-gigabit Ethernet is satisfying the need for speed with modern network performance capable of supporting the digital era in which we’ve embarked. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet: Time for the Week in Review!

AT&T (News - Alert) led the week with some impressive Ethernet trial results. The recently concluded tests highlight data speeds surpassing 400 gigabit, which would represent a 400 percent boost in overall network speed as compared with current performance. The first round of testing included a connection between New York City and Washington, DC, and now with the successful result, AT&T will move onto the second phase of testing. TMC’s (News - Alert) Steve Anderson has everything you need to know HERE.

Recently, the 25 Gigabit Ethernet Consortium held a plugfest  at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab. The event targeted hurdles to interoperability – i.e. data corruption interoperability, protocol issues and interoperability between specific products. TMC’s Paula Bernier (News - Alert) offers a complete overview HERE.

This week, Broadcom (News - Alert) unveiled its MACsec PHY, which addresses security requirements for multi-gigabit Ethernet interconnects. The newly unveiled solution supports speeds of 10G, 25G, 40G, 50G and 100G. “This latest generation of MACsec PHY enables network operators with secure, encrypted 100G communications links capable of withstanding intrusion attacks, wiretapping and other threats to secure data transmission,” explained Lorenzo Longo, senior vice president and general manager of the Physical Layer Products Division at Broadcom. TMC’s Frank Griffin delivers all the details HERE.

What do you do if you know it’s time for a multi-gigabit upgrade, but don’t know the first step? Fret not, TMC’s Steve Anderson walks you through the paces and then some HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gig Ethernet. See you next week!
