The challenges of today’s competitive business landscape are difficult enough without the proper network components in place. Network modernization is not an option, as we live in a multi-gigabit world, which requires the performance of multi-gigabit Ethernet to drive business operations. And with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet: Time for the Week in Review!

NBASE-T led the news this week, as utilizing the IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3z standard allows for enterprises to make the most of copper cabling. It enables Power over Ethernet (PoE), which provides the ability to clear bottlenecks and create Wi-Fi roaming capabilities for distributed offices and campuses – powering access points through a single connection. There are reasons why NBASE-T solutions are building momentum, and TMC’s (News - Alert) Laura Stotler takes you through them HERE.

Stotler didn’t stop there, as later in the week she delved into the topic of upgrading enterprise LAN to NBASE-T. Put simply, NBASE-T offers an alternative to ripping out infrastructure and rebuilding the network to accommodate 10GbE. The first step is installing a switch with NBASE-T ports and NBASE-T LAN adapters to take a firm’s CAT5e and CAT6 cabling to multi-gigabit levels of Ethernet. Complete insight and analysis is HERE.

This week, Transition Networks (News - Alert) introduced a new family of PoE+ media converters, developed to support Wi-Fi access points over fiber, supporting small workgroups and connecting multiple remote system to a fiber switch connection. “These products are really the templates for next-generation media converters that need to excel at physical layer PoE+ connectivity but also have some network intelligence – like Layer 2 switching – for added convenience and flexibility,” said Curt Carlson, product manager with Transition Networks, which sells an array of data network integration products. TMC’s Paula Bernier (News - Alert) has all the details HERE.

The Mile High is humming with upgraded Ethernet connectivity thanks to Comcast (News - Alert). Stretching along the I-70 corridor, and supporting more than 750 businesses in the area, the service touts up to 10Gbps and a number of services available in addition to multi-gigabit Ethernet. TMC’s Steve Anderson offers complete coverage HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gigabit Ethernet. See you next week!
