Microsemi Now Shipping New Mid-Range FPGAs

The need for speed is tangible in the enterprise. With the influx of bandwidth heavy applications, the demand for faster, high performing multi-gigabit Ethernet is greater than ever. This week, Microsemi (News - Alert) announced that it has started sending engineering samples of the PolarFire mid-range field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), a key cog in the wheel of network modernization. The solutions are aimed at wireline access networks, cellular infrastructure, defense and commercial aviation. Oh, and not to mention industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things.
In addition to the PolarFire mid-range FPGAs, Microsemi is now also offering the PolarFire Evaluation Kit. The PolarFire Evaluation Kit is used for high-speed transceiver evaluation, IEEE (News - Alert) 1588, Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) as well as 10 Gigabit Ethernet and CPRI.
“After successfully shipping initial ES devices and hardware kits in February to our early access and select Tier 1 customers for system integration and advanced evaluation, we are pleased to reach another key milestone in the PolarFire family rollout by making ES and a high-performance evaluation platform available to our broader customer base,” said Shakeel Peera, senior director of SoC product marketing at Microsemi. “The release of the evaluation kit allows customers to port complex designs and test out advanced featuresâ€”including 12-Gbps package protocols, high-speed DDR3/4 memory interfaces, and general purpose input/outputs (IOs)â€”as well as complex signal and waveform processing, all in the industry's lowest power, cost-optimized midrange FPGA.”
When it comes to the network, there are no points for second place. The modernization movement is vital, and deploying multi-gigabit Ethernet is an easy way to quickly accelerate operations and keep up with ‘the Joneses,’ if you will.
