Multi-gigabit Ethernet Week in Review: Samtec, UNH-IOL, NETGEAR & More
August 05, 2017
Network requirements are growing at a rapid rate. Thanks to a growing IoT presence, our SaaSy reality and digital transformation (in general), more is demanded of networks than ever before. This is driving a movement toward network modernization and multi-gigabit Ethernet. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look back at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet news: Time for the Week in Review!
Samtec Inc. unveiled the 14 Gbps FireFly FMC Development Kit, aimed at the development and evaluation of FireFly optical engines. “Evaluating optical engine technology has high barriers of entry,” explained Matt Burns, Samtec product marketing manager. “Samtec’s new 14 Gbps FireFly FMC Development Kit eases FireFly evaluation and development by leveraging the FMC interface common on most industry-standard FPGA development tools.” All the details are HERE.
Also in the news this week, SSE Enterprise Telecom announced a new private dedicated Ethernet offering – Cloud Connect. The new product is aimed at companies searching for secure connections to cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. TMC’s Paula Bernier (News - Alert) brings you everything you need to know HERE.
NBASE-T Alliance member UNH-IOL (News - Alert) made headlines this week. UNH-IOL is joining the fray at Flash Memory Summit 2017, where it will be discussing conformance testing for Non Volatile Memory Express Fabrics (NVMe). “NVMe is on a faster growth trajectory than ever before. Companies are now testing feature-rich NVMe SSDs that include unique enterprise and client capabilities and implement the NVMe-MI specification,” said David Woolf, senior engineer, Datacenter Technologies at the UNH-IOL. “Demand for the NVMe-oF specification tracks increased, signaling to us that the industry is moving quickly from trials to real live deployments that will require conformance and interoperability testing at our next plugfest.” Complete coverage is HERE.
NETGEAR revealed the NETGEAR Gigabit PoE+ Smart Managed Pro Switch, the GS724TPv2. The new PoE+ switch is designed to help small and medium sized business address VoIP phone deployments and IP surveillance. The full story is HERE.
Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gigabit Ethernet. See you next week!
