An era of network modernization is upon us. Our SaaSy reality, demands more from the network than at any time in history, from bandwidth hungry video applications to simply supporting your CRM. The multi-gigabit Ethernet era is here, with carriers and innovators alike, working towards supporting the next generation of Ethernet.

Recently, Great Plains Communications announced that it has achieved Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certification from MEF (News - Alert) – the global body that manages standards for carrier grade, interoperable Ethernet.

"Achieving this certification is an achievement that Great Plains Communications is very proud of," said Todd Foje, CEO of Great Plains Communications. "This allows us to provide our wholesale and enterprise customers with the high quality CE 2.0 Ethernet service the market currently requires, while positioning both our clients and our company to meet increasing future demands."

Great Plains Communications is the largest middle and last mile provider of Ethernet in Nebraska, and now it joins a select group of providers. As MEF Carrier 2.0 is considered a differentiator for wholesale Ethernet providers selling to CE 2.0 service providers seeking to expand footprints and overall reach. The reason this certification is considered such a differentiator is simple, it is the foundation for future Ethernet innovation – says MEF.

“MEF congratulates Great Plains Communications for achieving CE 2.0 certification of E-Line, E-LAN, and E-Access services," said Nan Chen, President, MEF. "The company has demonstrated a commitment to delivering a suite of services that meets the highest industry standards for performance and reliability."

The need for speed is tangible today, as enterprises and SMBs are neck deep in network improvement projects readying operations for multi-gigabit Ethernet.
