ARRIS Unveils Secure Wave 2 Wi-Fi Gateways
September 28, 2017
We hear a lot lately about cyber security attacks of big companies like Equifax, Deloitte, and Verizon (News - Alert). But most of us don’t think much about the security of our own home networks. The good news is that residential Wi-Fi solutions now help address cyber security for us.
ARRIS International plc this week came out with a couple of new Wave 2 Wi-Fi gateways. The SBG6950-AC2 and the SBG7400-AC2 are part of the company’s Secure Home Gateway (News - Alert) porfolio.
“Life is too short for old school cyber security,” said Sandy Howe, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer products group at ARRIS. “Our new Wave 2 devices add the fastest possible Wi-Fi speeds and the latest connection capabilities to our revolutionary security platform, giving consumers the most convenient combination of speed, safety, and simplicity.”
In terms of speed, the SBG6950-AC2 offers download speeds of up to 686 megabits per second and Wi-Fi speeds of up to 1900 megabits per second. The SBG7400-AC2, meanwhile, supports 1 gigabit per second download speeds and Wi-Fi at up to 2,350 megabits per second.
These products leverage McAfee (News - Alert) software. And their use shifts security from individual devices to the entry point for your internet, so anything that is connected is protected, Howe said. The ARRIS Secure Internet app expands on that protection with its ability to disconnect selected devices manually or automatically at a set time, deliver notifications it delivers when devices try to access known malicious or restricted sites, and enable user internet access based on profile (to do things like set parental controls).
In addition to providing security, these new products combine the functionality of a an Ethernet hub with that of a modem router. And they are compliant with the 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi standards.
The SBG6950-AC2 retails for $179.99 and is available at major retailers such as Best Buy (News - Alert). The SBG7400-AC2 sells for $199.99. It’s sold by Amazon and other major retailers.
