Securing the people and products at your business or other workplace is more important than ever. That’s why many locations now leverage technology to manage and monitor door entry.

Identiv Inc. is among those providing solutions to enable that. And just last week the company introduced the Hirsch Mx-1 Controller to allow for more secure, and cost- and power-efficient operations.

“Mx-1 provides the best of all worlds to our access control customers,” said Mark Allen, Identiv’s general manager of physical access. “Powered over the Ethernet network, Mx-1 minimizes cable runs and wiring costs, making full-featured and secure access control available and affordable at just about every door in a facility.”

The Mx-1 features anti-passback, entry/exit control, lockdown, threat level management, and the two-person rule. It employs the Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm and the updated IEEE 802.3at-2009 Power over Ethernet standard. Because it keeps power local at the door, it allows for high power levels and improved power management. And it will be supported by Cisco (News - Alert)-focused Identiv Connected Physical Access Manager 3.1, which is expected to become available later this month, and will be available on the Cisco Commerce Workspace.

“Network edge design and PoE lowers the overall cost of access control at a door, resulting in more customers able to control more doors – doors that could not be controlled before,” said Joe White, Identiv partner and A-1 Corporate Hardware President. “We support many large customers with Hirsch systems at corporate facilities that need the same level of security and features at smaller offices around the world. They have been waiting for a product like this. We’re also seeing a strong demand for this type of product in our education and local government markets, at teleconference and network rooms, and at doors that may be a long distance from a centralized panel.”
