Teledyne LeCroy Inc. has come out with a protocol analysis system called the SierraNet M328Q. This is the latest in the company’s line of SierraNet Fibre Channel and Ethernet test tools.

“SierraNet M328Q compliments the SierraNet M328 and T328 platforms by supplying a pair of QSFP28 ports for native QSFP cable support of 50Gb and 100Gb Ethernet connections,” the company explains.

This new offering features the company’s InFusion traffic impairment and debug technology. It can be configured and controlled with the Net Protocol Suite, which is onboard. That includes an event time and counter functions for creating complex and detailed test matrices, the company says.

“The class leading InFusion function provides real-time traffic impairment capabilities to stress and observe the hardware and software components of the fabric under test,” says Teledyne LeCroy.

The company makes and sells an array of solutions. That includes advanced oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and other test instruments. These solutions are used to debug, validate the compliance of, and verify the performance of complex electronic systems.

The 52-year-old company is based in Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.

This solution is another proof point that Ethernet as a technology – and the solutions based on that technology – continue to evolve and grow.

Ethernet got its start as a local area network technology that worked at just 2.5 megabits per second. In the decades since then, Ethernet has expanded again and again to support double digit and then triple digit megabit per second connectivity, and then even gigabit level connectivity. In fact, a standard for 400 gigabit Ethernet is set to be ratified this year.

The MEF, formerly known as the Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert), has been among the key industry groups helping drive Ethernet into the future. And the company has been using the term “Third Network” to describe an environment that “combines the on-demand agility and ubiquity of the Internet with the performance and security assurances of today’s business grade networks (including Carrier Ethernet 2.0 and MPLS.)”
