Network requirements are growing at a rapid rate. Thanks to a growing IoT presence, our SaaSy reality and digital transformation (in general), more is demanded of networks than ever before. This is driving a movement toward network modernization and multi-gigabit Ethernet. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look back at the week that was in Multi-gigabit Ethernet news: Time for the Week in Review!

It’s been a year since the release of NBASE-T Ethernet, and the industry is embracing the IEEE (News - Alert) Ethernet signaling standard. “Previously, a bandwidth upgrade would have required organizations to engage in costly, disruptive construction in order rip and replace their cables,” Jones wrote in a recent blog. “But today, NBASE-T technology is helping them get more speed from their existing networks with a simple equipment upgrade.” TMC’s Paula Bernier (News - Alert) offers insight and analysis HERE.

Pica8 plans to unveil, PicOS network operating system for retailers at the National Retail Federation’s annual trade show and conference. The preeminent provider of open networking solutions is providing the retail industry with a value proposition that is difficult to deny. Offering portability to Ethernet switch hardware from a number of suppliers, this solution certainly embraces the multi-gigabit movement at hand. Complete coverage is HERE.

This week, Ciena announced the arrival of an expanded packet networking portfolio, bringing capacity closer to the network edge. The new hardware and software solutions support 100GbE and 10Gbe aggregation and delivery to support the new wave of web-scale applications. The combination of Ethernet business services, IoT applications, 4G/5G mobile backhaul is challenging network operators to rapidly deploy more connections with faster speeds, while at the same time managing and monitoring these connections. Everything you need to know is HERE.

Also in the news, Comcast (News - Alert) announced a six million dollar announcement in fiber network expansion that specifically includes five San Jose business parks. “The availability and reach of our high-performance Ethernet network is a tremendous business advantage for San Jose organizations,” said David Brown (News - Alert), vice president of Comcast Business for California. TMC’s Mandi Nowitz delivers all the details HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gigabit Ethernet. See you next week!
