There is good news in the network management sector. Zoho Corporation, which provides such network and performance management solutions as ManageEngine (News - Alert) and WebNMS, is offering the next generation of economical and easy-to-use system and cloud integration through REST API.

ManageEngine is the enterprise IT management software division of Zoho (News - Alert) Corp, serving more than 55,000 established and emerging enterprises. Real-time IT calls for IT to make the most of today’s game changing technologies and deliver immediate services to organizations that are operating at an ever-increasing pace.

Representational State Transfer (REST) is software architecture used for the Web. ManageEngine’s Applications Manager provides REST APIs for getting data from Applications Manager.

Using these APIs, Applications Manager’s data can be integrated with any internal portal or third party system management software.

These APIs also make it easy to integrate Applications Manager with internal portals and other monitoring tools. Also, the data can be inserted in a database or put into any format.

Each user needs an API key - which is a long text and is unique to their Applications Manager Account. Users can register for the API key using the "REST API" option in the Admin tab, the company explains in a recent statement.

There are several APIs that are currently available, according to a company statement. These include ListMonitor, which provides info on availability, health status of monitors, type and state: managed or unmanaged.

Another API is ListServer, which provides details of servers, such as IP address, status and services running. Another available API is ListAlarms, which offers details like alarm state - critical/warning/clear, type, top N alarms, and time-bound alarms.

Manage/UnManage lets the user manage or unmanage a monitor in Applications Manager by using the ResourceID. Still another API is CreateMaintenanceTask, which creates a downtime schedule in Applications Manager.

Other APIs include: EditMaintenanceTask, DeleteMaintenanceTask, GetMonitorData and AddMonitor

With new offerings, it’s much easier to integrate ManageEngine products into a current technology infrastructure.

“Whether you want to automatically add a device into OpManager when a new asset is added into your BMC REMEDY software, or you want to add assets into ServiceDesk from your existing network management platform it is now really easy,” said a company statement.

For instance, OpManager offers REST APIs for adding and getting data from OpManager. Using these APIs, users can integrate OpManager with third party IT management/service desk software.

OpManager offers APIs for adding a device, adding a device to Business View, deleting a device, displaying a device on Google (News - Alert) Maps, adding a notification profile to a device, adding an event, and adding a Business View, the company said.

There are over two dozen telephony and messaging-related APIs, as well as more than 100 applications built on platforms, according to a report on Programmable Web. APIs are offered for call control, messaging, mobile applications and for other sectors, Programmable Web adds.
