Riverbed Technology Improves Network Management Solution with Cascade 10.0

Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology has announced an upgraded network performance management (NPM) solution called Cascade 10.0, which meets the needs of three key areas of virtualization.

Cascade 10.0 provides performance management for virtualized desktop infrastructure (VDI), server virtualization and virtualized data centers via VXLAN software-defined networks (SDNs).

Also, Cascade can be purchased as a single unit and used by service providers across public, private and hybrid clouds.

In addition, Cascade provides the information IT staff needs to fix network and application problems quickly, the company said. And it offers a view across all networking architectures.

“What we’re allowing them to do is really peel back the onion, (and) expose … what applications are running,” according to Sidney Rabsatt, director of Project Management for Cascade at Riverbed, in a video interview from the company. Cascade 10.0 also reveals what virtual data center that the traffic belongs to, he added.

Cascade is available as an appliance or as fully virtualized software. It is targeted at various-sized organizations from small- to medium-sized businesses to large enterprises.

Cascade 10.0 and other Cascade virtual products will be offered for sale by the end of 2012, news reports said.

"With these new Cascade products, IT managers have an easy-to-use, integrated solution that empowers them to deliver the high-performing applications and networks their businesses demand," Dimitri Vlachos, senior director of marketing and products, Cascade Business Unit at Riverbed, added in a company statement. "IT operations can now embrace the great benefits of virtualization without giving up the visibility and control required to run today's always-on enterprise networks."

“We see a lot of customers using much older performance technology and can’t get a viewpoint of applications of their network,” Vlachos added in a statement made to ZDNet. “Today that’s not enough. You have to understand the network is there to deliver applications. They're intertwined: applications and network performance.”
