Vineyard Networks’ Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) is a next-generation Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) software engine. NAVL offers real-time, Layer-7 classification of network traffic. To accurately identify today’s most common applications including Mobile, Social Networking, P2P, Instant Messaging, File Sharing, Enterprise and Web 2.0 applications, NAVL utilizes a combination of deep packet and deep flow inspection techniques.
Recently, the company announced that Xirrus, a provider of high-performance wireless networks, is licensing Vineyard's Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) Layer 7 Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and application classification technology.
With Xirrus Application Control, customers get visibility into applications running over their networks. It also ensures the performance of important applications and limits the bandwidth available to recreational applications.
NAVL offers complete network traffic visibility – a first step in the Xirrus Application Control process.
“We are extremely pleased to be working with Xirrus, a company with a long track record of innovation and an intent focus on its customers' needs," said Jason Richards, president and CEO at Vineyard Networks. "Xirrus' integration of NAVL with the Application Control feature set of its wireless arrays sets a new high bar for the wireless industry, and is an excellent example of the ease with which NAVL can be integrated into a wide variety of platforms in both wired and wireless networks.”
Recently, the company partnered with Napatech to showcase a new 10 Gbps Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) enabled platform at an education event. The platform was created for OEM builders to make affordable, application-aware network traffic capture, inspection and analysis appliances based on standard servers.
To assist OEM vendors in designing appliances that can provide rapid Layer 7 visibility and application recognition, the new platform combines the power and features of Vineyard’s NAVL DPI software with Napatech (News - Alert) adapters.
