According to a new report from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) titled, "Analysis of the Global Unified Threat Management (UTM) Market: Enterprise Features and Product Value Propel Market Growth," leading provider of high-performance network security solutions, Fortinet (News - Alert), has successfully managed to hold on to its market leadership position within the global Unified Threat Management (UTM) market for the fifth consecutive year. The report highlights that Fortinet accounted for 20.5 percent of global 2011 UTM market revenue.

In a statement, Chris Rodriguez, senior industry analyst, Network Security with Frost & Sullivan and co-author of the UTM market report, said that, "UTM products are in demand in all vertical industries and globally. The UTM market is a high-growth market that is forecasted to grow at an annual rate of 17.3 percent from 2011 to 2016."

Frost & Sullivan defines a UTM product to be a multi-function, next generation firewall solution featuring stateful inspection; next-generation firewall (NGFW); intrusion prevention system (IPS); virtual private networking (VPN); gateway anti-virus (AV); anti-spam; and Web content filtering.

Fortinet’s FortiOS 5 has further enhanced the functionality of its entire unified threat management (UTM) product line by introducing capabilities which include -

FortiOS 5 also features on-device sandboxing, IP reputation management that is cloud-based, antivirus (AV), integrated wireless access controller and anti-spam, WAN optimization, anti-DDoS, vulnerability, and identity management and DLP.

The company’s high-end models come with multiple discrete processors that support high throughput for all applications while ensuring a balance in the price/performance equation at the low end via a custom system-on-a-chip (SoC) that packs multiple processor functionalities within one single, cost-effective, processor.
