This week we have seen how companies address malfunctions within the community, as well as advancements in performance capabilities in 2013. Let’s take a look at this week’s hottest news in network management!

Despite recent revelations in mobility and social media trends, fans watching the Super Bowl chose to do it the traditional way – with broadcast television. This year was the second straight Super Bowl that was available for streaming, but it did have an effect on network traffic, which actually decreased 15 percent during kickoff as compared to an average Sunday. It also decreased when the Ravens took a significant lead at halftime. This analysis – while it proved that users preferred to watch the game on broadcast television – also showed how analyzing network traffic in this manner can help predict trends.

The ATMs that consumers draw money from are not owned by banks; instead, they outsource them to third party operators, which has become a huge expense. But with so many advancements in the wireless networks and solutions space, the industry has finally found a way with WebNMS’s release of a Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solution to help manage ATM machines. This could help banks monitor their ATMs instead of outsourcing with the help of the combination of the hardware and software, enabling a remote management of assets, including its useful analytics.

Network management is a key aspect to all industries, and choosing the right employees and technology is a part of its success. Being able to communicate efficiently with customers, partners and employees is vital, and by using the right network manager to optimize its flow of data, businesses can optimize their capabilities and Applications Performance Management (APM (News - Alert)). According to a panel at ITEXPO this past week, APM prevents problems between network and applications by providing visibility into every component.

Another revelation that has been released for the workplace is Internet-based faxing, which removes the need for a fax machine, as documents are sent to e-mails. In storing information in the cloud, it is vital that businesses have a desktop management solution, such as Desktop Central 8. Desktop helps install software, patches and service packs to client computers, as well as help standardize desktops by applying uniform configurations like shortcuts and printers. It also enables the auditing of network systems with complete license details and detects prohibited software usage in the network.

Stay tuned to the network management community to discover the newest trends and latest developments for 2013.
