This week we saw how companies are improving their solutions and products to accommodate the ever-changing space in 2013.

To start off the week, Concurrent’s MediaHawk, a unified content delivery network solution, was selected by Virgin Media (News - Alert) and will be used to support Virgin TV Anywhere, a new cloud-based entertainment source. MediaHawk addresses all the changes of delivering video to every type of screen, whether it is mobile or a laptop, and combines support for both TV and Internet-connected devices an easy-to-use system. “With Virgin TV Anywhere, Virgin Media is helping our customers enjoy compelling entertainment whenever they want, wherever they are. We continue to grow the services we offer and, with Concurrent’s solution, we can reach new screens more easily and rapidly scale our system to meet increasing demand for Internet-based services,” said Scott Kewley, Virgin Media’s director, multiscreen product.

Vienna also saw some changes as it switched over to its new Air Traffic Management (ATM) system, which is a part of Europe’s effort to modernize all of its systems this year. The switch over could have been complication, but with the help of Network Managers Operations Center (NMOC) and Operations Planning experts who support the Austro Control team, it was a smooth one. According to the reference report, “The Transition Plan for Major Projects in Europe - Winter 2012/2013,” which details the assessments, developments and agreements on mitigation measures in Europe for ATM, the world is expected to see more cities in Europe making a similar switch.

There is another expansion that occurred as well, but this one was inside the U.S. Cellular One, which will be expanding its services to cities inside central Louisiana and will now be offering local communities a 4G experience. The company is already headquartered in the area and provides the most extensive cellular coverage and retail locations more than any other cellular company in the region.

Lastly, MagageEngine introduced a new integrated IAM solution for Windows Shops, AD360. This new solution runs on all Windows-based infrastructures and will be centered around all components of IAM for SMBs and businesses that use Window Active Directory, where users will now be able to use all of the AD360 modules to develop a single console. According to Clive Newport, head of IT Infrastructure and Support at Vasanta Group, “AD360’s offering is very good. It’s an interesting mix of solutions that caters to various IAM needs arising in our environment. Both ADMP and SSP have gone a long way to simplify and automate our IAM requirements. Product development seems active, and most importantly, ManageEngine (News - Alert) support is responsive and helpful across all the products we use.”

Stay tuned to the network management community to discover the new trends and latest developments for 2013.
