SolarWinds (News - Alert), a provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, has released a new free SolarWinds Firewall Browser tool and announced the availability of its free Kiwi Syslog Server.

Both solutions will be available as part of SolarWinds’ line of free tools and free products that help deal with problems in network, systems, SIEM, virtualization, storage and general IT management tasks.

According to officials, SolarWinds firewall browser will enable IT professionals to troubleshoot firewalls and manage change requests from their desktops. This tool overrides the use of rule set searches that are based on address or service ranges.

SolarWinds Firewall Browser is a free firewall configuration search tool that will allow unlimited searches on mixed-vendor inventory made possible from a single interface, explained officials. The firewall browser features capabilities to import and search unlimited Cisco (News - Alert), Check Point and Netscreen configurations besides being able to search rules and objects based on IP address, name, service or port.

Users can also verify if a change request is already handled by the security rules; find the best rules and objects that can be reused for making a change and also determine the impact of a change to an object group. SolarWinds Firewall Security Manager will further enhance multivendor firewall management via its analysis, configuration and troubleshooting capabilities.

IT pros will be able to collect, view and archive syslog messages and SNMP traps via the free Kiwi Syslog Server, which lets users watch up to five different routers, computers or network devices. It also displays logs and writes logs to a disk either in a single large file format or classified by day and priority. Users can get real-time statistic summaries on a desktop viewer, added officials.

Kiwi Syslog Server free edition features capabilities to collect syslog messages and SNMP traps, log to disk and split logs by date or priority, view in real-time through up to 10 filtered windows, receive high-traffic alerts and also review statistics through daily e-mail summaries.

Recently, on behalf of the DoD Enterprise Software Initiative (DoD ESI), the Department of the Navy and the Naval Supply Systems Command awarded blanket purchase agreements (BPAs) for IT asset management software with SolarWinds, Flexera, HP, ServiceNow and Symantec (News - Alert).
