Software provider Splunk (News - Alert), which offers solutions for monitoring, searching and analyzing machine data, recently launched a new apps website to enable its customers and partners to have a more valuable experience when using their service.

The website features more than 400 apps and add-ons, as well as 100 new apps added this year by customers, partners and independent developers.

Splunk has built and released new versions of the Splunk App for VMware, the REST API Modular Input and the Splunk App for SQL Server.

The updated App for VMware proactively monitors, provides comprehensive operational analytics and correlates VMware data with technology structures beyond virtualization such as applications, operating systems and hardware like servers and network devices. The new REST API Modular Input lets developers extend the Splunk platform by using REST class for correlation and data enrichment to gather and manage external data sources. The updated Splunk App for SQL Server offers operational and security dashboards that give real-time insights into Microsoft (News - Alert) SQL Server deployments.

Customers, partners and developers have built and delivered apps such Datasift Social Data Streams Modular Input and Pentano Business Analytics for Splunk Enterprise, as well as an add-on for pfSense Firewalls.

The Datasift Social Data Streams Modular Input gives organizations the ability to correlate and analyze social media data with operational enterprise data, while the Pentano Business Analytics lets businesses quickly visualize and gain additional insights from Splunk Enterprise. The technology add-on for pfSense Firewalls makes it easier to collect data from these firewalls through the use of CIM-compliant field extractions, event types and tags.

“Apps play a huge role in making Splunk Enterprise the standard for monitoring, analyzing and visualizing machine data because they make it even easier to gain insights from unique or specialized data,” Markus Zirn, vice president of product and solutions management of Splunk, said in a statement. "Each new app enhances Splunk Enterprise in a different way, ensuring that Splunk customers gain more value as they correlate and analyze more data across the enterprise.”

In addition to this new website, Splunk has also announced a new version of its machine data platform. Splunk Enterprise 6 provides analytics up to 1,000 times faster than its previous versions.
