TMCnet Network Packet Broker Week in Review

It was a busy week in the Network Packet Broker sector. Here are some of the major stories from TMCnet.

VSS Monitoring is heavily involved in the Network Packet Brokers space. It has developed the VSS Management Center (vMC) from the ground up to be the centralized GUI to maintain several vBroker appliances at once. That lets system administrators utilize more than one broker device at time, while simultaneously adhering to filtering policies and analyzing reports.

Also, NTT Communications has allowed the AFP News Agency connect with its Asian network hub in Hong Kong, and provided the company with an Ethernet interconnect solution from its sites to the Hong Kong-based central site. To ensure that AFP benefits from a single routing solution, NTT Communications (News - Alert) has also created its network to support a balanced flow while addressing the rapid growth in multimedia.

In another story, Riverbed Technology has announced the integration of Riverbed Stingray Traffic Manager – its software and virtual application delivery controller (ADC (News - Alert)) – with VMware vFabric Application Director, a hybrid cloud application provisioning solution. The integration of Stingray Traffic Manager software with vFabric Application Director is expected to enable application architects within IT organizations to easily – with a drag and drop interface – accelerate and load balance their enterprise applications in the cloud.

TMCnet also reported that Andy Huckridge (News - Alert), senior director of telecom marketing and strategy at network packet broker provider VSS Monitoring, recommended, in a recent article, evaluating return on investment (ROI) when thinking of deploying a network packet broker layer. The operator has to compare the estimated total cost of ownership over three years between the current monitoring environment and a proposed network packet broker layer. With this kind of information, the operator can then estimate direct and indirect savings.

In another story, TMCnet reported that network packet brokers offer enterprises a new way to look at their networks and improve the efficiency of their connections, performance analytics, security, and WAN acceleration solutions. This new kind of solution utilizes Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) ports to ensure that network traffic is being used efficiently through network utilities and monitoring devices. Network packet brokers also give IT professionals’ insight into situations that might need their attention on the network which could compromise security. VSS Monitoring, a network packet broker provider, has cited some studies that demonstrate a 120 percent rise in business continuity, application availability, and uptime.
