Recently coined by Gartner (News - Alert), the term network packet brokers (NPBS) refers to a robust toolset that can improve visibility significantly into each and every action currently taking place on a corporate network. This solution is key as you continuously hear about big name organizations being hacked by sneaky cyber attackers, a threat that a network packet broker can eliminate completely.

This week in the space, Mobility Tech Zone, a website that is notorious for gathering all of the latest and greatest news currently taking place in the mobile broadband industry, has recently selected network packet broker provider VSS Monitoring (News - Alert) as a winner of its 2011 Product of the Year Award for its Distributed Series.

According to the company’s site, “The Distributed Series accesses and delivers traffic from one or more full-duplex networks to multiple network intelligence tools. Policy-based triggers, filtering, and load balancing combine with packet optimization and specific application features to provide redundant network intelligence system building for full LAN, WAN, or cloud-based network visibility.”

Network packet brokers enable businesses to significantly reduce the amount of tools they must both manage and maintain, while simultaneously cutting down the time it takes to respond to any type of malfunction-related issues. This solution is ideal in being able to quickly gain insight into exactly what traffic is passing through the network at exactly the right points, enabling companies to seamlessly integrate a network intelligence optimization layer into their infrastructure to manage the connection between the tools and network with ease.

In other news, Radisys Corporation has unveiled its 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) controller solutions. Designed to assist telecom equipment manufacturers to improve packet throughput and workload performance, this offering will also enable users to dramatically cut down development time.

The Radisys’ 40G solution is ideal for situations in which businesses need high-throughput applications in place including deep packet inspection, network security and wireless gateways.

Closing out this week, NetClarity (News - Alert) Inc. made headlines when it revealed in line with its partnership with Ready Informatica that it is officially the distribution partner of robust security solutions within the Italian market segment.

This alliance will enable channel partners of Ready Informatica to utilize NetClarity’s internal security solutions, improving security within businesses that have anywhere from 10 to 25,000 devices.

“As a high value added distributor (VAD) in Italy, Ready Informatica aims to provide innovative technologies and market leading IT solutions,” said Marco Lorefice, vice president, Ready Informatica. “We offer unbeatable training, technical and sales support, and marketing programs to [VARs] in Italy, and we now can look forward to providing them with NetClarity’s NACwall internal security appliances to help protect their customers’ networks from hackers, as well as solve the BYOD dilemma that many Italian companies are now facing.”
