Wind River Introduces Software Platform for Developing Sophisticated Network Equipment
October 29, 2012
Touted as provider of embedded and mobile software, Wind River (News - Alert) has recently introduced the Wind River Intelligent Network Platform, which has been designed from the ground up to power robust network equipment that can accelerate and secure the flood of traffic for current and future networks alike.
A system-based approach to a network packet broker can enable users to significantly increase visibility into the traffic taking place in their network as well as drive operational efficiency.
The newest offering from Wind River is comprised of software that manages a consolidated control and data plane system in addition to software engines that provide fast packet acceleration and content inspection. In addition, the company plans to continue developing additional engines to handle a variety of specialized needs, such as accelerated traffic flow-classification.
The platform is fully compatible with the Wind River Linux. Moreover, it also supports different combinations of the components, including alternative Linux distributions.
As network equipment providers are continuing to experience new pressures due to the explosion of network traffic coupled with the need to deliver a high quality of service with stronger network visibility and security, they are now more than ever implementing network packet brokers to drive security and see each and every action taking place on the network.
"Equipment providers are in need of powerful building blocks to help them build faster, smarter, safer networks," said Paul Senyshyn, senior director of Communication Platforms at Wind River, in a statement.
Senyshyn added that by using the combination of the company’s technologies, customers can address current network traffic challenges and be ready to scale for the future. “Our efforts to create a comprehensive and secure network stack translate into immediate time-to-market savings for our customers,” he commented.
The Wind River Intelligent Network Platform is optimized for Intel’s (News - Alert) architecture including the latest Intel Platform for Communications Infrastructure. Plus, it can be seamlessly integrated with the Intel Data Plane Development Kit (Intel DPDK).
