Celcite Management Solutions, a provider of automatic optimisation tools and services for wireless networks, recently announced that its COPS-AIC software solution has been selected by cellular operator, MTN (News - Alert) South Africa.

The solution offered as a service will enable MTN to further optimize its 2G and 3G networks by improving the network quality indicators. Moreover, MTH will use the solution to track the overall root causes of network issues, and discriminate between RF and operational issues.

COPS-AIC is an automatic multi-vendor network optimization rules engine that continuously takes in a variety of data types from the network, such as performance counters, faults, trouble tickets, mobile measurements data and geo location data, to correlate possible root cause analysis with poorly performing network elements.

AIC separates real RF issues from others automatically.

With executable scripts and trouble tickets, AIC provides actionable solutions. This results in a massive gain in efficiency and allows engineers to focus their efforts on more advanced and proactive optimization activities. COPS-AIC provides suggestions for parameter value changes for degraded sectors (per technology/vendor).

More than two million daily checks are performed through automation and complex algorithms (for a typical 2,500 site dual technology network).

“MTN was looking for a tool to empower its engineers and further improve efficiencies,” said Graham Kemp, Celcite’s Regional MD for Africa. “As networks become more complex, with multiple bands and carriers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and optimize these without the use of automation through intelligent correlation of diverse data sources. COPS-AIC will enable MTN to further optimise its 2G and 3G Radio networks, giving it an even more stable base from which to roll out additional 3G capacity, and also time bandwidth to optimize its new LTE (News - Alert) network as it is rolled out.”

“The trial of COPS-AIC demonstrated impressive results over the limited trial area, with substantial improvements reported in network quality brought about by improved engineering efficiency,” said Jason Murray, senior manager of Radio Optimization, MTN.”
