From IP auctioning, to software defined networking suite to high-performance Infiniband switches, the network packet broker space was active with new product introductions and other announcements this past week.

TMCnet contributor Raju Shanbhag highlighted auctioning of innovative telecommunications platform by patent brokerage experts at ICAP to its global base of IP buyers. ICAP CEO Dean Becker said, “The components of this IP package are relevant to telecom or network service providers wishing to provide the next generation of efficient and cost-effective, possibly free, services to their customers."

According to the report, the telecommunication service platform auctioned was from EnVid Technologies. This telecom unification service portfolio includes various communication mediums such as mobility, IM chat, PSTN, VoIP and SMS.

On the product side this week, Big Switch Networks (News - Alert) launched its open software defined networking (SDN) product suite. TMCnet contributor Ed Silverstein’s report suggests some experts believe it will lead to “transformational change” in networks. The report shows that the Big Switch Networks Open SDN will let customers use many of those network applications not possible with older alternatives.

Also, as per the report, the new product suite also supports open standards and APIs such as OpenFlow.

In a statement, Guido Appenzeller, CEO at Big Switch Networks, said “Big Switch Networks ecosystem ensures customers the broadest range of choice in physical and virtual infrastructure and applications, coupled with the industry’s only open network application platform.”

Also, this week, Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies introduced a new 12-port switch system to FDR 56 Gbps InfiniBand switch solutions line. The new 12-port non-blocking fixed switches belong to the Mellanox SX6000 series of FDR 56Gbps InfiniBand switches. They also include fabric management capabilities to ensure the highest fabric performance.

Gilad Shainer, vice president of market development at Mellanox Technologies, said the new 12-port FDR 56Gbps InfiniBand switches provide small-scale storage, enterprise and embedded systems with the best cost-performance interconnect solution.

In other news, TMCnet contributing writer David Gitonga reported that intelligent broadband network solutions provider Sandvine (News - Alert) launched the Routing Efficiency Dashboard to help operators make routing decisions in high-demand traffic. This enables them to better manage their networks.
