While the term has not been out there for that long, a network packet broker has quickly become an essential element of any business looking to overcome an array of network connection issues. Due to its ability to closely analyze each action occurring on a corporate infrastructure, significantly reduce the chance of cyber attacks as well as drive efficiency, this product has become a go-to offering implemented by companies throughout the globe.

With that being said, each and every week is filled with network packet broker news. This week was no different, as news broke that network packet broker provider VSS Monitoring (News - Alert) is expanding its customer base at a rapid rate.

One of the major factors behind the company seeing a high level of success is due to its acquisition by the Danaher (News - Alert) Corporation last year.

Danaher’s strategic acquisition of the firm in essence gave the network packet broker company a “much larger opportunity around network performance monitoring and security,” according to Gartner (News - Alert) Research Director Jonah Kowall.

In other news, as more companies begin to leverage next generation offerings such as virtualization and cloud computing, network traffic has dramatically increased, which further proves the need for a much higher level of visibility into everything taking place within a big network. While applications will only become more sophisticated as the days pass, it is key that organizations implement a network packet broker to alleviate the extreme burden being placed upon the shoulders of IT departments far and wide.

“Large organizations are attempting to address this evolving set of performance, security, and operational requirements but it is becoming difficult for existing network monitoring and security tools to keep up with these trends and provide adequate coverage,” Bob Laliberte recently highlighted in a ESG Market Report.

Luckily, there are several NPB providers out there, with more continuously entering the space, that are enabling companies to rest assured they will not suffer from the affects from network slow downs or downtime.

Closing out the week, Mindspeed Technologies (News - Alert), Inc. (MSPD), a company touted as a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, seamlessly integrated its Lionic Corporation’s Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology with its revamped Comcerto 2000 multi-core ARM Cortex-A communications processor family.

Boasting the ability to be utilized within various platforms such as security gateways, converged broadband home routers (BHR) and set-top box (STB) media gateways, this robust product will bring an unparalleled level of support to gateway-based antivirus solutions, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), application-level policy enforcement and content management, and other security tasks.

In turn, this will enable service providers to see many more security-related capabilities available within their suites.

Be sure to check back next week to see the latest and greatest in network packet broker news!
