It’s that time again—network packet broker time to be exact! As yet another week comes to a close and we are now halfway through January, the network packet broker space has once again exploded with news due its rapid growth, which can be attributed to three key factors: that the solution allows for a much higher level of visibility into all network actions, cuts costs and optimizes tools already in place within a corporate infrastructure.

This week, an informative report written by Brian Musthaler, a principal consultant with Essential Solutions Corp, was highlighted. According to Musthaler, “There is a greater need for visibility, as well as intelligence, of the network.”

Now everyone together—duh! But something you may not know is that although many companies already have security tools in place, their performance can be brought to an unparalleled level when introducing a network packet broker. This is because all data now passing through the network can be closely analyzed which in turn enables IT administrators to see the products that are not working properly right away. Further, network packet brokers can send a large volume of network traffic from multiple SPAN ports to the correct destination which helps to drive efficiency.

According to NPB solutions provider VSS Monitoring, “The right set of NPBs will help enterprises perform on-demand traffic capture and maintain full link layer network visibility, which is critical in monitoring large network infrastructures for rapid incident response.”

In other news, Telsasoft (News - Alert) revealed that several companies recently began to leverage its key performance monitoring tools that range from Viaero Wireless of Fort Morgan, Illinois Valley Cellular of Marseilles, and Cellular One of East Central Illinois of Danville to the international wireless carrier Bermuda Digital Communications Ltd.

"Quality network performance and services are keys to all networks thriving," Ray Lo (News - Alert), president of Telsasoft, said in a statement. "Our customers count on our network management tools and support to empower their technical team to maintain superb network performance. We will continue to make sure that our products and services grow with our customers' networks and needs."

Cellular One teamed with Telsasoft in order to gain access to its robust alarm management and performance monitoring tools for its 2G, 3G RAN and GSM/GPRS networks, while Bermuda Digital Communications Ltd, a carrier in the Caribbean region, turned to the company to revamp and accelerate the performance seen within its 2G and 3G networks.

Both companies realized they needed a user friendly platform that wasn’t too expensive, a major factor in regards to forming this strategic alliance.

Closing out the week, VSS Monitoring made headlines once again when it was announced that the network packet broker is assisting wireless network operators overcome an array of obstacles when transitioning to LTE (News - Alert).

As the days pass, wireless service providers are engulfing themselves in LTE networks and at this time, nearly 57 true 4G LTE networks have been launched in 32 countries. An additional 75 operators are expected to deploy LTE networks commercially throughout the world in 2013. The biggest names currently in this industry include AT&T (News - Alert), Verizon and Sprint. However, VSS Monitoring could soon be included within this group if it keeps moving at its current pace.
